Student Government Association

A good friend of mine, George Weaver, is running for Board of Governors.  George is running under the platform for intramural sports and is hoping to increase numbers through out the freshman population to help lower our very high retention rate.  If you haven't already, make sure to sign onto mix and vote for him.

Anyway George will be focusing on getting younger students especially freshman to become more involved in intramural sports to help lower WVU's retention rate.  For those of you who don't know, WVU currently holds a 20% retention rate.  We as a university are ranked as one of the highest in this category.  The retention rate basically means that 20% of first/second year students will not return after their freshman and or sophomore year.  It's very discouraging to see a number like this and if we stay at this high percentage the university is at risk at losing perspective students.  A statistic like this does nothing else except aid to the perception that WVU is a big party school.  There are many other reasons as to why we have such a high percentage.  Students not getting into their majors upon arrival to school as well as advising play a large role in WVU's retention rate.

Like I mentioned please vote for George Weaver.  He will be running to enhance intramural sports through out the university in hopes to get more students active and involved within the university.
